Model UN: Voices, Votes & Global Affairs
What do ending hunger, fair elections, clean oceans, good schools and KPop Demon Hunters have to do with global peace? Health, law, science, education and culture are all ways that people and the planet are interconnected — and common interests like these are the foundation of the United Nations, the largest intergovernmental body in the world.
In this course, you’ll explore the inner workings of the United Nations, and you’ll learn about the astonishing range of histories and cultures around the globe. On the final day of this course, we’ll hold a Model UN event — and you’ll be assigned to serve as a country’s delegate. You’ll get to practice diplomacy and real-world debate skills as you negotiate and collaborate to pass a resolution about a pertinent issue in global affairs.
What You’ll Learn
- Why the field of international studies matters
- The history of modern global politics and how it affects us today
- How to debate and negotiate on behalf of an organization
- Research skills you can use to stay informed about international relations
