Mechanics of Writing Workshop

Strong writing skills are a prerequisite for success in high school, college and beyond. In this course, you’ll strengthen your writing skills and master topics like grammar, sentence and paragraph structure, and narrative organization. Come away with some new skills to include in your writer’s toolkit.

  • Common types of academic essays and important grammar concepts 
  • Strategies for strengthening your writing and organizational skills 
  • Tips to help you outline, draft and revise your work 
  • How to provide and receive constructive feedback  
  • How to create a portfolio of your work 

Who Should Register 

This course is for incoming sixth to eighth graders. It’s not a creative writing course, and it’s not for those who need remedial writing help. All students should have a high level of English language proficiency.

More Information

This in-person course is taught on the UW Seattle campus.

Students who want a full-day experience can register for two courses — one in the morning and one in the afternoon — which will include a supervised lunch break between courses. Students should bring a lunch.
